Why We Exist

Khala Sana was born from the heart of Mehe Demula, a guitarist whose journey has taken him from stages like The Voice Nigeria and The Bantu Hour, to serving as a music director in different spaces, and composing and producing music for television – from jingles to rich cinematic soundscapes. Beyond the spotlight, Mehe is a proud husband and father of two, driven by a deep passion for the local music industry and a vision to help it flourish.

Our dream is to become one of South Africa’s leading string manufacturers, distributing across the continent and empowering African musicians with world-class tools for their craft. The name Khala Sana, meaning Living Art, reflects our belief that music is more than notes on a page – it’s art that breathes, moves, and inspires.

We are a self-starting company, built from the ground up with a spirit of collaboration and a desire to leave a legacy that others can join, build on, and expand. Khala Sana is more than just guitar strings; it’s a movement to create and sustain living art, empowering musicians and shaping the sound of generations to come.

Our Product

The first Khala Sana release marks the beginning of our vision to build a premium string brand for guitarists who care about their tone and feel. Every string we make is treated—not coated—to resist corrosion naturally while preserving authentic playability and pure tone. This process gives your strings longer life and fuller sound across genres without altering how they feel under your fingers.

Prelude

"I’ve spent years chasing great tone—on stage, in studios, and behind the scenes of some of Africa’s biggest shows like The Voice Nigeria and The Bantu Hour. I’ve directed music in different settings and composed music for television, crafting everything from jingles to rich cinematic soundscapes.

This first release is more than a product; it’s an invitation to join me in building something for guitarists, by guitarists—a brand born out of passion and made to grow with a community that loves to create living art. Built for guitarists who create every day, from small rooms to big stages."

– Mehe Demula, Founder of Khala Sana
